Recently, Will Schmitt of Classy posted a blog discussing the limitations of text to give and text to donate services (he distinguishes the two). The blog does point out some interesting considerations, but it overstates the limitations of text to give.
Traditional text to give services require a half dozen hard-to-get forms and the paperwork is immense. It’s enough to discourage most people from even wanting to bother, and in fact, about to 83% of charities don’t even qualify because of the insane regulations. Why does text-to-donate have to be so difficult to obtain? Why are charities being punished and forced to jump through hoops just to do some good in the world?
Virtually all the research out there says that your nonprofit will raise more money with an SMS donation service in the mix than it will without one. Offering SMS donations to your donors increases the number of opportunities your organization will have to collect donations from prospects.
